Founded in 1942 by Don Julio Gonzales, the Don Julio house has been distilling a 100% agave tequila since 1949. In 1987, to celebrate 45 years of production by the house, the first premium aged tequila was baptized Don Julio Reposado. But it was in 2002, for the sixtieth anniversary of the company, that Don Julio 1942 was introduced to the market, a tequila aged for a minimum period of two and a half years in American oak barrels.
Profile: unctuous, soft. Fine notes of peppermint. Fruit galore (lemons, apples and pears) and sweet spices (cinnamon, Bourbon vanilla and cardamom). Hint of pepper.
